Ecotourism in Gabon

Gabon's 13 national parks cover 11% of the country — Lopé, Loango and Ivindo tell one of Africa's greenest conservation stories.

Ecotourism in Gabon

Gabon's 13 national parks, created in 2002 and covering roughly 11% of the country's land area, represent one of Africa's most ambitious conservation commitments. Our ecotourism tours centre on Lopé National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage site and the best place on the continent to see mandrills, with community-linked tourism revenue — and on the forest-elephant and gorilla clearing of Langoué Bai in Ivindo, accessed ranger-led with minimal impact.

Loango National Park protects Africa's only coastline where elephants, buffalo and occasionally hippos share open beaches, making it a flagship destination for low-impact wildlife viewing.
